Latin Name: Asclepias curassavica
Common Names: -
Growth Structure: Erect bush with height to about 3-4 feet
Light Requirement: Full sun/ Part sun
Water Requirement: **
Description: Milkweed is the only solid food ever eaten by Monarchs, and the planting of milkweed is a critical to keeping Monarch butterflies in the Western US.
Note: Milkweed sap contains a skin irritant (one reason humans consider it to be a weed). Milkweed can also be toxic to animals that eat it - so if you've got a pet that eats everything, do not plant this. We don't know of any other vendor that makes this clear before purchase, but we want you to be happy!
Another note: Tropical milkweed does not die back like native milkweed does in the winter. It is recommended that tropical milkweed caretakers cut their milkweed down in the winter to discourage Monarchs from laying eggs in the wrong season and to prevent them from being infected with parasites found on Milkweeds.
