Brittlebush, Encelia farinosa

Brittlebush, also known as Encelia farinosa, thrives in a range of desert conditions and has rapidly spread due to its success in hydroseeding. It can withstand dry gravelly slopes and sandy washes, making it a versatile and resilient addition to any garden. Native to the desert, this plant is now commonly used in cultivation.

Brittlebrush has fragrant, green-white grayish leaves 1 to 3 inches long. When this plant is covered with yellow daisy flowers, those flowers attract butterflies, and birds eat the seeds. Its common name Incienso reflects its aromatic, resinous sap, which has been used as an incense substitute in Mexico.
