LA Wonder is a winter squash that Farmer Rishi has been breeding since 2012. It is an extremely productive, highly storable winter squash with good eating characteristics too. This variety does very well in Southern California, producing extremely abundant harvests reliably.
The characteristics of this squash will vary from plant to plant, since the seeds are very genetically varied. This is not a stable variety, each seed as its own unique mix of genetics and characteristics.
LA Wonder Winter Squash description
Texture: Not as dry as kabocha, but not as squishy as a pumpkin. Usually about right in the middle, meaty but soft, and generally very moist.
Flavor: Sweet-ish, but not very sweet. (I wish it was a bit sweeter, the variety lost its sweetness over the years). Nutty and pumpkin.
Size: Depends on the plant, but generally between 7lbs and 14lbs.
Productivity: Very productive. We generally get 15 to 20 squashs (or about 200 lbs) per vine. One year we harvested 46 squashes from one vine (around 400 lbs).
Storability: High storable. Wash squashes after harvest, dry and put in any dry area. They will store at least 1 year, often up to 1.5 years.
