Chocolate Persimmon is a rare and highly prized variety of persimmon that is distinct from its common cousins. The tree produces fruit similar in shape to Hachiya, but with brighter orange-red skin. When pollenized, Chocolate persimmons are sweet, spicy, firm brown fleshed with a few seeds when grown. Unpollinzed, the fruit has orange flesh and seedless. Persimmon connoisseurs prefer Chocolate persimmons. Like Hachiya, wait for fruit to soften before eating.
This easy to grow tree produces fruit very reliably in Southern California and has almost no significant pests or diseases to worry about. Chocolate Persimmon trees can grow to be very tall, but size can be maintained through pruning. Harvest fruit only once the leaves have dropped from the tree.
